RIP Pat Hingle

  • Jan. 5th, 2009 at 2:07 AM

Normally, I might not post about this man's passing, but his death seems like a really weird coincidence.  Actor Pat Hingle died yesterday, on 1/4/08 at the age of 84 after battling leukemia.

Hingle had almost 200 credits to his name and his first big screen movie was an uncredited role as Jocko in On the Waterfront.  But the movie I remember him from mostly is the 1989 version of Batman where he played Commissioner Gordon (he also appeared in the 3 sequels).  Other credits included guest starring roles in pretty much every TV show including MASH, Magnum PI, Murder She Wrote, Simon  & Simon, Hart to Hart and even Life Goes On!

But why this is a weird coincidence is that I honestly only ever remember the guy from Batman...and yesterday I bought and watched Sudden Impact (one of the Dirty Harry movies)...in which he had a supporting role.  I saw his name on the credits and was eagerly awaiting his appearance in the movie.  Then I was wondering if he was still alive or not (i had guessed not)...but forgot to look it up.  Then sometime around the same time I was watching the movie...he dies.  Queue creepy twilight zone music.

RIP Commissioner Gordon....
