Tuesday Morning Funnies

  • Mar. 26th, 2007 at 1:06 AM

If you missed Saturday Night Live this past weekend, check out these funny clips.  Peyton Manning was surprisingly more natural at the comedy shtick than I expected.  I guess he ends up pulling a "Peyton Manning" for the rest of his football career, he can always fall back on comedy.

The Spartans Kicked Movie Ass

I'm not shocked that 300 was #1 at the Box Office this weekend...or that it had the highest BO opening weekend this year so far...I mean, WB did launch a massive marketing campaign.  But the estimates of $70 million are amazing for a March movie...especially since the movie is rated R and because in this day and age the DVD/downloading market really cuts into theatrical attendance.  I saw a late show of the movie on Sunday night...and it was sold out...so I wouldn't be surprised if the number is actually higher than $70 million.

But if you're one of the multitudes that actually made it to the theater this weekend to see a bunch of men in speedos, then you too were subjected to a beautiful-looking movie that lacks in substance.  I know this isn't the type of movie you go to see for superior acting...and I went into it expecting nothing but a fresh-looking piece of art...and that's pretty much what I got, give or take a few nipples and gruesome-looking characters.

The movie seems to be getting high marks both on Yahoo movies and IMDB so far.  I can only guess those giving it 10/10 were the adolescent boy crowd who went to see the movie stoned.  Some of the critics have said the movie is too violent and bloody.  It is very violent, but the "blood" doesn't look real at all and I think realistic looking bloodshed is much more jarring than cartoon splatters and beheadings.  It definitely doesn't stick out in my head as one of the most violent movies.

My only other complaint about the movie is....why does such a hot dude like Gerard Butler have to look so hideous in this movie?
