Well, it seems only appropriate that todays cartoon be The Transformers. I meant to do it last week...but ummmm...forgot!

So, I wasn't a huge fan of the 80s cartoon, but I did watch it on occasion. A friend of mine's brother had a lot of the toys, so I remember playing with them and trying to "transform" the damn things...they would either get jammed easily, or I'd get most of the way there and couldn't finish. Of course, I didn't try TOO hard before I decided Barbie needed to be making out with Ken in front of all my little smurfs!

Anyways, not much to say...the good guys were the Autobots and the bad guys were the Decepticons...and really the only ones I clearly remember are Optimus Prime and Megatron. Optimus transformed into a a big diesel truck and Megatron originally transformed into a gun. You can look all this shit up on wikipedia, but good luck...there is TONS of stuff out there on the Transformers. I do remember liking the theme song. It'll be posted below if I can find it.

My 2nd favorite cartoon of all-time is the 80s classic G.I. Joe. I always considered myself a tom-boy and loved a cartoon with tough chicks who got to kick cobra ass. Looking back on it, I'm just now realizing how funny it is that the villains weren't necessarily from another country, but rather part of Cobra's army. In the 80s, it would have been easy to make the villains Russians or Chinese or something...but noooooo....the real bad guys were snake-people and Destro who was a robot or something. There were a few foreigners though, like the slimey Baroness who had some sort of accent.

My favorite characters were Scarlet, Duke, Flint, Snake Eyes and the under-used Cover Girl. Lady Jay was okay too, but a little too much of a lezbot if you ask me! I also loved how at the end of every show a Joe would teach some kids a lesson and the kids would say "now we know" and the Joe would say "and knowing is half the battle." But they never freakin' told me what the other half was, so I never won the battle! :( Bastards!
